Is any door really “unbreakable”?

Short answer: no. Any door, window or screen can eventually be defeated by someone with enough time, tools
and privacy — which is exactly why you’ll never see a legitimate Australian security screen brand promise a
product is literally unbreakable. What actually matters is how much force, time and noise it takes to get through,
and whether that’s been proven under independent testing rather than just claimed in an ad.

That’s the difference Prowler Proof is built on. Every Prowler Proof security door and window screen is
manufactured in our automated Banyo, QLD factory to the same specification as the products that sit through
Australian Standard AS5039 testing — so the screen delivered to your door has been through the same six-test
gauntlet as the one in the lab, not just a marketing sample.

How intruders actually try to get in — and what stops them

AS5039 exists because break-ins follow predictable patterns. The standard tests security screens and doors
against six methods that mirror how intruders really try to force entry:

  • Dynamic impact test — a pendulum weight is swung into the screen at 100 or 200 joules, simulating someone kicking or shouldering the door.
  • Jemmy test — a lever is wedged between the lock, hinge and frame and mechanically winched, simulating a screwdriver or crowbar used to pry the door open.
  • Knife shear test — a heavy-duty blade is repeatedly drawn across the mesh, simulating someone cutting through the screen.
  • Probe test — force is applied either side of a small gap to try to widen it, simulating an intruder reaching through to unlock the door or window from inside.
  • Pull test — direct force is applied via cable and winch to test how much the infill resists being pulled or wrenched from the frame.
  • Corrosion test — checks the product still performs after exposure to the elements, so a screen that’s protected your home for years is still as strong as the day it was installed.

This is what “break-in resistant” and “break-proof” should mean — not an adjective on a listing, but a product that’s been through all six of the above. It’s also why a window screen needs the same scrutiny as a door: a break-in through an unsecured window is just as much a break-in as one through the front door, which is why Prowler Proof tests fixed and hinge window screens to the same standard as our doors.

What about the lock itself?

A security screen is only as strong as what’s holding it shut. Prowler Proof doors and hinge windows use multi-point locking hardware, engaging the frame at multiple points rather than a single latch — which is what the jemmy and pull tests in AS5039 are specifically designed to defeat. If you’re comparing an “unbreakable door lock” claim, ask whether the lock has been tested as part of a certified door and frame assembly, not sold and rated as a standalone part — that’s the only way the rating means anything once it’s installed.

What brands of security doors offer the strongest protection against break-ins in Australia?

The honest answer is: check for AS5039 certification before you check the brand name. A product cannot legally be called a “security screen” without meeting the Australian Standards. Ask any brand you’re considering for their AS5039 test certificates for the specific product and infill you’re buying. Check the National Security Screen Association for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a security screen door really unbreakable?

No product is literally unbreakable. Prowler Proof security screens are independently tested to AS5039, Australia’s standard for forced-entry resistance, so “virtually unbreakable” in our ForceField range means it’s passed six destructive tests — not just a marketing description.

What Australian Standard should I check before buying a security door?

Look for AS5039. It covers dynamic impact, jemmy, knife shear, probe, pull and corrosion testing. Ask any supplier for the test certificate covering the exact product and infill you’re buying.

Do I need break-in resistant window screens as well as doors?

Yes — an unsecured window is as much an entry point as an unlocked door. Prowler Proof fixed and hinge window screens are built and tested to the same AS5039 standard as our doors.

Which Prowler Proof range offers the strongest protection?

ForceField, Protec and Diamond are all compliant to AS5039. ForceField and Protec have both been rated to Security Level SL200, the highest available in Australia.

Can security door locks be forced open?

Any lock can be attacked given enough time and the right tools. Prowler Proof doors use multi-point locking hardware tested as part of the compliant door and frame assembly, which is what resists jemmying and pulling attempts under AS5039.
